Getting Involved
The different parts to WOPAM and how we grow...
Are you a Bioacoustician?
Did you take underwater recordings between the 7th to 9th of June in either 2023 or 2024 and are interested in being part of the collective WOPAM effort? You can still be involved beyond June 8th and contribute recordings, join workshops identifying key research questions from the WOPAM datasets, and be part of shaping WOPAM for future years.
Are you a musician or an artist?
We invite people to consider how they connect with sound, and what it means to hear these underwater voices and soundscapes. This year beyond World Oceans Day we are also establishing a network of creatives interested in exploring the different ways we connect and engage with aquatic sounds.
Together, we want to celebrate the importance of underwater sound and what it means for both biodiversity and ecosystem health.
Are you interested in participatory science?
We are working towards making data collection for WOPAM more broadly accessible for the years to come. This involves identifying trainings to prepare for acoustic recording, information about types of recording equipment available, and how to prepare for upcoming WOPAM efforts on World Oceans Day.
Are you a Conservationist?
Bioacoustics is one of the diverse sources of information that can inform conservation strategies and help monitor their effectiveness over time. For example, this can be through monitoring protected areas or assessing the biodiversity of different underwater habitats. We are encouraging partnership with people with conservation experience and expertise to explore how bioacoustics from projects such as WOPAM can better support existing conservation efforts.
