WOPAM 2025
This year, the United Nations World Oceans Day (8th of June) will be just before the United Nations 3rd global Oceans Conference (UNOC) in Nice, in France. So we will be celebrating our collaborative recording community, recording across the world's aquatic environments, from UNOC! Below are some of the ways in which you can become part of our global efforts this year.
1) Share sound bites "Fresh out the Sea"

If you have interesting aquatic sounds clips any time from the 6-9th of June 2025. You can contribute to the global sound snapshots we will be showcasing at UNOC. We want to showcase what our collaborators uncover and what we can hear, fresh from our oceans, all over the world. We would love to share your perspective, the work you do and why you think aquatic sounds are important.
2) Contribute to our global dataset for 2025

Our community of collaborators, bioacousticians and researchers working with aquatic sounds are deploying their hydrophones all over the world for their research and as part of WOPAM 2025. If you know you will be recording from 7-9th of June 2025 and would like to contribute to the dataset and upcoming collaborative analyses, please let us know and we can provide you with the details you need.
3) Join us for solution-based thinking at UNOC

While at UNOC we will...
-
Meet WOPAM collaborators working with sound artists to explore valuable habitats through their soundscapes.
-
Learn from youth conservation groups passionate about ocean conservation and how sound can be integrated in youth-driven engagement around the world.
-
Participate in panel discussions with some of our Machine Learning and AI Partners to see how aquatic sound can support ongoing technological advances that can support conservation impact.
-
Meet with conservation partners to explore how bioacoustics can be effectively applied to their ongoing strategies and how we can best collaborate to have measurable positive impact in future efforts.
If you have ideas, contact us and join us for any of these discussions.
Beyond UNOC...
WOPAM is built by it's collaborative community. Our work together doesn't end after the United Nations Ocean Conference. We will continue to advance the analysis of our collective acoustic data, learn from the expertise of the local community members and conservation partners that we work with to apply bioacoustics techniques to threat abatement strategies, and host workshops with our growing community of artists, musicians and creatives to explore the different ways we engage with sound and consider how this connects us to the oceans and the wildlife within. Anyone is welcome to be part of these efforts and please contact us to learn more of how you can join the WOPAM community.
